Acceptable Use

The Laurel School District considers Chromebook and Internet usage both a privilege and a necessity for students to bridge the limits of our physical surroundings and to experience enhanced learning. Therefore, we view our staff, students, and families as vital stewards of our students' 1:1 learning.

Responsibilities

District

  • The District will provide eachstudent with a chromebook/ipad/laptop (device) to enable access to learning at and away from school.
  • The District will monitor, manage,and maintain all devices, as theseare the property of the Laurel School District.

Parent

  • Parents will monitor the responsible use, daily care, and maintenance of the device.
  • Parents will purchase insurance or be responsible for the cost of repairs. (More information willbe provided prior to start ofschool year).

Student

  • Students will have the device available for learning at home and at school and will use the device for school use only.
  • Students will be digitally responsible and treat the device with care at all times.

Getting Started with Your Chromebook

Chromebook

  • Chromebooks can only be accessed with your Laurel issued Google account.
  • Before logging in, connect your Chromebook to your home Wi-Fi.
  • Log into your Chromebook with your Google credentials
  • firstname.lastname@students.laurel.k12.de.us - I think we can change it so we don’t have to put in @students.laurel.k12.de.us...thoughts?

    • The default password is Dogs plus student ID (lunch number) e.g. Dogs12345
  • Ask your teacher or contact the school office if you need help identifying a username or password.

ClassLink

  1. ClassLink is the portal to all Laurel School District Apps.
  2. The homepage for all Chromebooks is ClassLink or visit https://launchpad.classlink.com/laurel
  3. Log into ClassLink with Google credentials. (firstname.lastname only)
  4. Once logged in you can access the applications you need for schoolwork

Google Drive

  • Google Drive is a file storage service created by Google.
    • Files are saved to the cloud and can be accessed at any time and from any device.
    • Share and collaborate files with others.
  • Locate Google Drive in ClassLink or visit https://drive.google.com
  • Log into Google Drive with Google credentials.
  • Every file in the district managed Google Drive goes through filtering software that scans language and images.
  • Students have adequate Google Drive storage for all school assignments.
  • Laurel recommends organizing Google Drive files by grade level and by content area.
    • Create a grade level folder and move your files into that folder.
    • Within that folder add more folders for each content area.
    • Sort your files into content areas folders.
  • Be sure to add a title to the Google Drive files to help make searching for files easier.

Schoology

  1. Schoology is the learning management system that students use to communicate with teachers. Information and assignments will be posted here.
  2. Locate Schoology in ClassLink or visit https://laurel.schoology.com
  3. Log into Schoology with Google credentials.
  4. Once you are signed in, select “Courses” at the top of the Schoology home page.
  5. Select each course and familiarize yourself with the content.

Dreambox

DreamBox is an adaptive, online, K-8 math program designed to complement classroom instruction and proven to positively impact student outcomes. Combining a motivating, game-like environment with a rigorous and standards-aligned curriculum it responds to learners’ actions and decisions by continuously adapting to support student competency with math concepts, and promoting strategies for fluency and application- all while empowering educators with real-time data and academic insights to inform instruction. As a student works in DreamBox for one minute, the program collects, analyzes and responds to over 800 data points about that student and how he/she learns. DreamBox challenges and motives all students in three-age appropriate and responsive learning environments- struggling, advanced and on-level ensuring every learner receives instruction in the environment that is right for them.

Cleaning

  • Power off the Chromebook
  • Use a disinfectant wipe to clean
  • keyboard, Chromebook case,and plastics
  • Use soft cloth with a mild detergent to clean the screen

Remember, you are Reponsible!

The Chromebook belongs to the Laurel School District and is an instructional material checked out to you. 

The student and their parents/guardians are responsible to keep the Chromebook safe and secure from loss and/or damage. Fees for loss of or damage to the Chromebook will be assessed.

You may purchase optional insurance to cover damages.
