At North Laurel Early Learning Academy (NLELA) we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming and nurturing environment for the Laurel School District’s youngest learners. Housing only our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs, NLELA’s small setting is a wonderful transition for our students’ first school experience. The caring and attentive staff provide support to children as they become familiar with the school and begin to learn the fundamentals of reading, writing, and mathematics. The building blocks of reading and language use are established through the implementation of the Bookworms Curriculum, a research-based reading program developed by Drs. Sharon Walpole and Michael McKenna. In mathematics, NLELA serves as a pilot site for an innovative new math curriculum, Illustrative Mathematics. The inclusive setting at NLELA allows students of all ability levels to achieve success and prepare themselves for first grade and beyond.

Socially, students learn to be good and safe community members through our Second Step guidance curriculum and Positive Behavior Support Program. The school was extensively renovated in 2019 and the classrooms and main hall are bright, cheerful and spacious. State of the art sound and cooling systems are found in each classroom. Further upgrades are planned for the summer of 2021.

Our school mascot Lela, greets our students in the lobby each morning and stands guard from her lobby doghouse throughout the school day waiting for lots of love from the children at the end of the day as they head home. The small, close knit, staff of our school considers itself a family and together we work to make the first years of school a wonderful and positive learning experience for the children of our school district

Your child's safety is of the utmost importance at North Laurel Early Learning Academy!

In order to sign out a student, you must show proper identification and be listed on the child's emergency contact list.

Every month, NLELA will have a fire drill to ensure all our students follow the proper procedures in case of an emergency.

At least twice a year we practice "Intruder Drills". This drill will be explained in detail prior to the first drill of the year so the students know what to expect and to emphasize this is just a practice. We want to make sure we all know what to do should we ever be faced with an emergency situation here at NLELA.
