This Black History M

This Black History Month, we honor the African-American educators who shaped generations of Laurel students.

This tribute highlights former Laurel High School staff, as high school yearbooks were the only records available to us.

We also proudly recognize the many African-American teachers and staff from our elementary and middle schools whose impact was just as meaningful, even when photos or records are harder to find.

If you have names, stories, or photos, we invite you to share them with us as we continue celebrating this important legacy! ❤️🐾🤍

Tonight, the vote did not go the way we had hoped.

But we sincerely thank everyone who listened, engaged respectfully, asked questions, and participated in this important decision for our students, staff, and schools.

Final Vote (Unofficial):
FOR: 612
AGAINST: 1113

We will take time to review, reflect, and learn from the feedback we received, and we remain committed to doing what’s best for our students and community moving forward.

Thank you for being engaged and caring about Laurel’s schools.

We’re grateful to share the perspective of Mr. Chester Davis, a lifelong Laurel resident, longtime coach, and true patriarch of the Laurel School District.

At 85 years old, Mr. Davis has seen Laurel through decades of change—good times, hard times, and everything in between. In this conversation, he reflects on what it means to care for a community across generations and why moments like this matter for the future of the town he’s called home since 1968.

His words aren’t about politics or pressure—they’re about perspective, stewardship, and love for Laurel.

🙏Thank you, Mr. Davis, for your lifetime of service and for sharing your voice with our community.
