Good morning Laurel families. This is Dr. Larrimore calling with an important update about an incident at the high school this morning.

Before school started, students who had arrived by bus were in the gymnasium, which is the location where all bus riders report before going through the metal detectors to begin their day. During that time, an altercation occurred and one student produced a knife.

Our staff, constables, and School Resource Officer responded immediately, and the situation was quickly contained.

A student who attempted to break up the altercation sustained a minor cut above the knee. The student was treated on-site by medical staff and is fully OK.

The student who produced the knife was immediately removed from the area, fully secured by law enforcement, and is in their custody. The incident is being addressed according to district policy and law enforcement procedures.

We understand that situations like this can cause great concern. Please know that maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students remains our highest priority, and we will continue to act swiftly and decisively whenever the safety of our students or staff is at risk. ...
